M.Tech. in Robotic Engineering

Overview

Robots will be ubiquitous in the near future and will find its application in areas including aerospace, automotive, manufacturing, transport and logistics, healthcare, biomedical, defence, agriculture, search and rescue, nuclear facilities, other hazardous environments, servicing and inspection and homes. Industries, developing systems for these sectors need well qualified Robotic engineers.

It is estimated that each industrial robot needs at least four highly skilled people such as engineers to run, maintain and service it. This is in addition to design, control, manufacturing and programming jobs for engineers that are expected to be created. As a rapidly growing economy India has huge potential to become major player in the area of robotic technologies and systems development.

Robotic engineers should be able to conceptualize and design, model, simulate, analyse and validate the robots using modern tools. The program imparts knowledge in Robotic kinematics and dynamics, control systems, image processing, embedded systems and various analytical and software tools for the purpose of developing and testing robots to a given application.

Objective

Our program –

  • Teaches modelling, programming, simulation, analysis and validation of robotic systems for building robots based applications.
  • Discusses the importance of robots in various applications.
  • Trains students to design, develop geometric models of robots and perform kinematic and dynamic analysis.
  • Trains students to select sensors, actuators, drives, end effectors and control systems for robots based on application.
  • Develops on board real-time decision making capabilities in robots through image and signal processing.
  • Helps students design, develop and simulate robotic systems to meet varied functional and operational requirements.
  • Helps students develop a career in Robotics and Automation.
  • Encourages students to practice Teamwork, lifelong learning and continuous improvement.

Highlights

  • Elective Specialisation

This program offers eight electives grouped to help students specialise in a chosen field. A student can in consultation with a HOD or Dean or module leader opt for an elective than spans multiple streams

  • Online Elective

Students can choose elective courses online through MOOCs, SWAYAM, NPTEL and other equivalent platforms, adhering to guidelines prescribed by the University

  • International Competitions

Students can also earn 3 or 4 credits by participating in international competitions like technical presentations, conferences and publications in journals and winning awards. Students who achieve this can be exempted from one of the elective courses in the program

  • Group Project

A group of up to 5 students can come together to work on an interdisciplinary project in consultation with faculty. Students are required to develop a report for assessment and demonstrate the working of the product, and the project needs to be approved by a committee before it is executed. The IPR rights of all such work lies with the University only

  • Industry Internship or Project

A student can opt for an internship in an industry, a business or research organisation. Alternately, students can undertake a mini-project which requires self-directed study that can be pursued with an affiliated faculty member. The internship needs to be approved by the HoD and Dean and students have to submit a report and make a presentation to a panel constituted by the HoD for assessment

  • Dissertation and Publication

This course includes a dissertation and publication. Each student has to choose a relevant topic for a dissertation and this needs to be approved by a committee constituted by the HoD. The dissertation should then be converted into a technical paper published in reputed conferences or journals

  • Uses application-based learning.
  • Offers research opportunities.
  • Offers internship, training, and placement support with universities and industries worldwide.
  • Provides state of the art facilities in: synthesis and dynamics of mechanism, drives and controls, vibration in machinery, and fracture mechanics.
  • Includes expert guest lectures from various institutions and industries.
  • Workshop, industry visits, group discussions and debates
  • Encourages small batches for in-depth learning.
  • Includes Group Project and Dissertation as output

  • Our emphasis on applied brilliance translates into a campus that is buzzing with activity, whether in the form of guest lectures, seminars, workshops and industry events or student-organised activities and competitions.
  • With 9 Faculties from different areas of study, multidisciplinary thinking is a way of life at RUAS.
  • From a host of eateries and cafes to convenience stores and coffee vending machines, our campus has been designed and developed to ensure that the needs of every student are met.
  • With access to RUAS’s numerous facilities, students are encouraged to participate in co-curricular sports and cultural events.
  • The University offers a range of on-campus accommodation options. Third party, off-campus hostels are also available
