Overview

Automotive engineering is one of the specialized disciplines of engineering. Designing and manufacturing of automotive components and system have been there world over for many centuries. Automotive Engineering is a specialized discipline, critical to the success of many enterprises. It plays a key role in energy, transportation, development of infrastructure and manufacturing of automotive vehicles. Presently, automotive engineers are contributing in research and development pertaining to environmental, bio-fuel fields, electric vehicle, use of machine learning and artificial intelligence towards development of autonomous vehicle. Automotive engineers are responsible for selection and processing of eco-friendly materials, fuels and processes, design and fabrication of automotive components and systems to improve the quality of transportation.

The automotive engineering programme at Faculty of Engineering and Technology at RUAS has been developed by the members of the faculty based on interactions with various universities and industries in India and abroad.

The curriculum is outcome based and helps students to develop critical thinking abilities and imbibe relevant practical skills for a smooth transition from academics to real-lifework environment. Opportunities are provided for the students to do their internship in India or abroad depending on their preferences.

The alumni of the faculty hold respected positions in industry and business in India and abroad. The faculty interacts with the industry and business offering engineering and consultancy, product design and development services along with training modules to practicing professionals. The faculty interacts with more than 150 companies in public and private sectors including OEMs spread across India.

The above mentioned features of the programme and the faculty member’s strong footing in industry and business make the programme unique. The student admitted to the programme in automotive engineering is given a strong foundation in real-life problem solving skills.

Objective

  • To impart knowledge on automotive systems and their sub-systems
  • To facilitate the understanding of underlying engineering principles of automotive systems to explain their construction and working
  • To model, simulate and analyze the behavior of automotive systems to predict and improve their performance
  • To design and develop prototypes of automotive systems to meet the specific needs
  • To instrument and test automotive systems for validation
  • To train students on commercial software tools to design, model, simulate automotive vehicle systems
  • To train students on manufacture and production of automotive systems
  • To provide opportunities for personal development and strengthening interactive skills with a feel for society and to pursue a long lasting career

Highlights

  • Minor Programme

A Minor Programme is an additional program of choice that can be pursued along with the main degree program. Students can register fort this with the University. This is offered to meet the aspirations of high performing students.

  • Proctoral System

Under the Proctoral System, every student is assigned a faculty member as a Proctor or a mentor.

These mentors offer guidance, support and encouragement to students, helping them as they progress along their academic journey. From the choice of electives to their academic performance, from attendance to meeting their credit requirements, students can approach these mentors with any and every query.

Proctors also interact with parents/guardians and keep them updated on the progress of students.

To ensure that they reap the benefits of the Proctoral System, students are advised to be in regular contact with their Proctors.

  • Innovation Centre

At the Innovation Centre, students team up with faculty members to bring their innovative ideas to life.

Ideas are assessed based on their relevance to — and impact on — society. These are then translated into working projects that are entered in national and international competitions, and for registration as patents.

  • Semester Abroad Programme

Students can opt to register one semester in a partner university abroad. Students can take courses or take an internship or conduct a project during this time.

  • Open Electives

Students can choose from a multitude of open electives offered from different faculty for credits. These are specially designed as a basic introduction which help in the holistic development of an individual.

  • Application based learning program
  • Research opportunities
  • Internship, training and placement support with various worldwide universities and industries
  • State of the art facilities in Engine Testing, Vehicle Aerodynamics, Assembly of Vehicles, Fuel Testing and Design Validation Simulation tools.
  • Expert guest lectures from various Institutions and Industries

  • We offer accommodation in student hostels on our campus, and even offer third-party off-campus hotels where necessary to ensure students can focus on what matters the most.
  • Our on-campus facilities include WiFi any time of the day, 24/7.
  • From a host of eateries and laundry facilities, we ensure that students have access to all facilities.
  • We encourage students to participate in co-curricular activities on campus which include sports and cultural events, both at a university level and a faculty level.
  • We help students focus on independent and sponsored research with projects and a dissertation.
