B.Tech. in Information Science and Engineering

Overview

The Dept. of CSE offers an effective undergraduate programme in Information Science and Engineering in the modern era of the emergence of AI and Data Sciences. The programme trains students in application topics such as healthcare and information systems, data processing, information retrieval and search engines and bio-informatics. A rich set of elective courses along the lines mentioned above responds to the demand of information science professionals in various enterprises building large scale information systems in healthcare, management and education, to name a few specific application areas. The students will be able to build effective information systems in any required domain with the latest database and Web technologies and construct and deploy large scale Information Systems that are AI and Big Data enabled.

Objective

  • To facilitate the acquisition of knowledge in computing and information technology systems and their subsystems
  • To develop understanding of the underlying logical, algorithmic, architectural and programming principles of computing systems
  • To build the ability to design and implement computing and information systems to meet the specific application needs
  • To model, simulate and analyse the behaviour of computing and information systems to predict and improve their performance
  • To train students on development of software products to meet specific requirements and customer needs
  • To impart training on the processes and practice of engineering, deployment and operation of information technology infrastructure
  • To impart training on professional ethics, history, economics, social sciences and interactive skills relevant to professional practice
  • To provide a general perspective on lifelong learning and opportunities for a career in industry, business and commerce

Highlights

  • Proctoral System

    Under the Proctoral System, every student is assigned a faculty member as a Proctor or a mentor. 

    These mentors offer guidance, support and encouragement to students, helping them as they progress along their academic journey. From the choice of electives to their academic performance, from attendance to meeting their credit requirements, students can approach these mentors with any and every query. 

    Proctors also interact with parents/​guardians and keep them updated on the progress of students.

    To ensure that they reap the benefits of the Proctoral System, students are advised to be in regular contact with their Proctors. 

  • A Semester Abroad

    We offer a program in which students can register a semester in the final year with a partner university, where students can do an internship or a project. 

  • Innovation Centre

    At the Innovation Centre, students team up with faculty members to bring their innovative ideas to life. 

    Ideas are assessed based on their relevance to — and impact on — society. These are then translated into working projects that are entered in national and international competitions, and for registration as patents.

  • Open Electives

    Students can choose from a multitude of open electives across faculties for credits. These are specially designed courses which offer a basic introduction for a holistic development.

Teaching and Assessment

During each semester, students’ performance is assessed through Continuous Evaluation (CE) and a Semester End Examination (SEE). CE and SEE weightages carry equal weightage.

Students are awarded grades based on the marks scored

  • Ability to apply problem solving approaches to real-life computer programming scenarios and to build complex and large-scale software systems. 
  • Ability to specify appropriate abstractions of complex requirements and design effective solutions in the form of reliable algorithms and computer programmes.
  • Ability to analyse engineering problems, interpret data and arrive at meaningful conclusions involving mathematical inferences.

  • Candidates have to have passed 10+2 examinations with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory courses along with Chemistry, Biology, Electronics and Computer Science. 
  • Candidates need to have scored at least 45% aggregate marks
  • Candidates belonging to the reserved categories should have at least 40% aggregate marks.

The decision of the Equivalence Committee is final for lateral entry. 

  • Candidates should have passed a Diploma examination from an approved institution with a minimum of 45% marks 
  • Candidates from the reserved category should have scored a minimum of 40% in in the appropriate branch of Engineering and Technology.
  • Candidates must have passed B.Sc. from a University recognised by the UGC with a minimum of 45% marks
