Departments

The Faculty of Engineering and Technology has six departments that cover the various programs offered by it.

Department of Aerospace Engineering

At Present Aerospace Department is offering two Under Graduate (UG) programmes namely B. Tech in Aerospace Engineering and B. Tech in Automotive Engineering and also offering one Post Graduate Programme (PG) namely M. Tech in Aerospace engineering

The academic programmes are structured to develop the student’s skills in line with current trends in Industries. Students are also exposed to AI and ML concepts in the early semester. Students have the option to select appropriate electives in order to specialize any particular domain such as AI &ML, Aerodynamics, Control system, Autonomous vehicles and Future Mobility. Faculty members in department are having very strong capabilities on Hypersonic Flow and its applications.

Aerospace department is executing a lot of sponsored research projects from funding agencies including DST, ARDB, GTRE, ADE, ISRO, Faurecia, Mann and Hummel. Students have the opportunity to work on those projects with and without financial aid.

The department is equipped with adequate infrastructure, laboratories and well qualified, experienced faculty members. Most of the faculty members have good industry experience which will be very useful to students to have excellent exposure of Industry requirements. Many of the faculty members in the department provide training capsules to practicing engineers working in Industries including Tata Motors, Mahindra, Bosch, Continental, Ashok Leyland.

The students are encouraged to do internship and projects in industries and department facilitates the students to get an opportunity to do the same. Department has signed MOUs with industries to take care of internship and project for meritorious students. MOU with foreign universities including Texas AMU, University of Illinois (Chicago and Urbana Champaign) will help the students to pursue their higher studies at abroad.

Department of Computer Science and Engineering

In addition to undergraduate, postgraduate, and academic research programmes, this Department also actively conducts research in the areas of Artificial Intelligence and Data Sciences, Computer Networking, and Software Engineering.

Department of Electrical Engineering

Established in 2015, this Department focuses on the study and application of electricity, electronics, and electromagnetism. It ensures a rich academic experience by complementing theoretical learning with industry visits, research collaborations, and opportunities to study abroad.

Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering

The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering deals primarily with the design, development, and simulation of electronic and communication sub-systems / systems. The curriculum ensures that students develop a strong foundation in the theoretical concepts of the discipline. This learning is complemented with rigorous practical training in the design and development of devices for various applications.

In addition to common core subjects, the Department offers a range of electives that help students sharpen their technical expertise and keep them up-to-date with innovations in the field of electronics and communication. A multidisciplinary approach is promoted and students are encouraged to collaborate with the departments of Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering and Civil Engineering on research projects. PG and Ph. D students also undertake research projects at the University’s Techno Centre that give them a competitive edge over their peers. Additionally, students are pushed to take up value added courses, internships, and soft skills programs to contribute to their employability.

The Department has well-qualified and technically proficient faculty members with rich academic, industrial, and research experience. As dedicated teaching professionals, they channel their efforts to ensure the academic and professional success of all students. The outcome-based curriculum helps students to develop critical thinking abilities and imbibe relevant practical skills for a smooth transition from academics to real‐life work environments.

Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering

The Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering (MME) was established in 1999 as a part of the Ramaiah School of Advanced Studies. The department strives to achieve excellence in education, academia, industry-oriented research, consultancy work, and service to society. Mechanical Engineering and Robotics at the B.Tech. level; Robotic Engineering and Manufacturing Technologies & Engineering Management, at the M.Tech. level are the programmes offered.

The Department’s curriculum is developed in collaboration with industry and domain experts. It is designed to be outcome-based and employs innovative teaching methods. A strong emphasis on practical application ensures students get hands-on experience with labs, simulations, and modelling packages. The supportive environment, enthusiastic and committed faculty members, numerous projects and competitions push students to become independent thinkers and lifelong learners.

Over the years, the Department’s focus on research has sharpened to the thrust areas of composite and nano materials, computational mechanics, fatigue life extension, farm machinery design, automation, thermal management, waste handling and recycling systems, operations and supply chain management, and circular economy. Nearly twenty Ph.D research scholars are being mentored by the faculty.

The Department regularly undertakes interdisciplinary and collaborative research with other faculties. Students and faculty members play an active role in these projects, and project outcomes lead to publications in reputed journals and patent applications.

MME has also established research centres with funding from government bodies like the Karnataka Council of Technological Upgradation (KCTU), Government of Karnataka, the DRDO, and the DST. The focus of this funding was on the areas of advanced manufacturing, composite materials and technology, and farm machinery. State-of-the-art labs and facilities including dynamic testing machine, dynamic balancing machine, wire EDM, additive manufacturing, composite manufacturing facilities, optical measuring, and scanning tunneling microscope enable pursuit of groundbreaking research.

The Department’s MoUs with national and international universities (such a Kazan National Research Technological University, KAI, the St. Petersburg State Polytechnical University, the University of Illinois, Chicago, the University of Texas, Arlington, Texas A&M University, College Station, etc) as well as with organisations such as CMTI and the Peenya Industrial Association pave the way for numerous education, research, and consultancy opportunities.

Department of Civil Engineering

The Department of Civil Engineering at Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences has been imparting quality outcome based technical education with ethics since its inception and is considered one among the best in the state of Karnataka and India. The department has a well experienced team with highly qualified professionals specialized in a broad spectrum of Civil Engineering including Structural Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Construction Engineering and Management, Environmental Engineering, Water Recourses Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering and Earthquake Engineering.

The department offers B.Tech programme in Civil Engineering and M. Tech. Programmes in Structural Engineering (SE), Construction Engineering and Management (CEM), Transportation Engineering (TE) and Environmental Engineering and Management (EEM).

The courses in the programs offered are well planned, designed and delivered to equip students with thinking minds and enriched with practical and field exposure that are demanded by the construction industry, educational and research organizations worldwide.

The department has well equipped laboratories with modern facilities and simulation tools compatible to national and international codal specifications, which encourage the students to involve in active research and patentable findings through inter-disciplinary collaborations.

The department also has active collaborations with reputed universities in USA and Russia along with industrial and Government organizations within the country and worldwide for education, research and consultancy services.
