About the Seminar:
Cyber space today is already pervading all walks of life of individual citizens, institutions, machinery, and infrastructure of Governments. India, despite its geographical and demographic size has impressed the world through its accelerated
efforts in the digitization of all facets of its functioning and administration. India launched a flagship programme Digital India” with a vision to transform India into a digitally empowered society and knowledge economy. This in turn necessitated the creation and sustenance of highly dynamic and integrated networks by harnessing the rapidly evolving ICT and Cyber technologies. The susceptibility of these networks to Cyber attacks and their potential disruption must always be Warned, Watched and Won.

Cyberspace is being exploited by several countries as a non-attributable instrument of war in Grey Zone operations prior to war or during war. Hence it is critical to grasp/analyze the Cyber threats/vulnerabilities and develop capability/capacity to mitigate or neutralize them. The warranted measures range from development of tools and protocols at individual levels to national efforts for the creation of Cyber Security infrastructure to safeguard the vital installations.

Cyber Security Awareness is the first line of defence to secure India’s digital infrastructure and assets, to protect a range of users and accordingly empower them with the requisite knowledge. Creating the sense of awareness is critical and it calls for the involvement of all the stakeholders encompassing private citizens to government and private sector institutions. Cyber Security Awareness Program (CSAP) is progressively emerging as an important and essential entity across the spectrum of stake holders.

October is celebrated as National Cyber Security Awareness Month (NCSAM) globally. National security is no longer viewed in its narrow military terms. Creating awareness of national security across the stake holders as a part of citizen’s duty is also emerging as a national measure of considerable importance. India joined the list of nations having a National Cyber Security Policy (NCSP-2013)”. Despite the considerable progress, there are still avenues for worthy endeavors in this direction. Indian Government has repeatedly flagged the importance of Cyber Security and accorded it the very high national priority along with maritime security and fighting terrorism.

The theme for this national seminar is Cyber Security Awareness – First Line of Defence”. The aim of the seminar is to underline the importance about Cyber Security and its fundamentals primarily to the civil society and others aiming at Safe Cyber Space”. The seminar has invited Expert Speakers, Practitioners, Policy Makers, Educationists and Public Servants (serving and retired), to share their expertise and experience on the subject. The seminar has a Keynote address followed by the sessions by Expert Speakers and a Panel Discussion. The seminar envisages to address the threats and challenges in contemporary context and to provide solutions that will make India Cyber Safe”. The seminar is being conducted under the aegis of RUAS, RPPC, IIC, NCDRC and RTBI.
